Martin Svrček can extend number of wins at EYOF test event

Tuesday, 06 July 2021

Dubnica nad Váhom and its surroundings will once again be alive with youth cycling from 16 to 18 July. The 58th edition of the International Cycling Days will also be a test of readiness for the organisers of the XVI European Youth Olympic Summer Festival.

In the past, the International Cycling Days have featured a number of leading cyclists, including Peter Sagan. This year the focus will be on Martin Svrček, the reigning Slovak junior champion. In the jersey of the Italian team Franco Ballerini Italia he has been very successful this season, he has already achieved twelve victories, especially in the well-attended races on the Apennine Peninsula.

This year, 138 cyclists from 24 teams from all over Europe will take part in this year’s race. The event is prepared by an experienced organizing team around Stanislav Holec, who will also coordinate the cycling races at the EYOF 2022 Banská Bystrica next year.

The first test of the EYOF organisers’ readiness for the cycling race was last year’s stage of the Tour of Slovakia from Žilina to Banská Bystrica. After the event had to be postponed to 2022, the organisers were looking for an opportunity to test their strength during this year. As the team around Stanislav Holec is preparing the traditional event in Dubnica nad Váhom, the choice of the test event was clear.

The International Cycling Days start on 16 July in Trenčianske Teplice with the opening individual 10 km time trial. The start of the first competitor is in front of the Krym Hotel at 17.30. The event continues on 17 July in Ilava at Mierovo Square from 13.00 with a stage through Javorinka, Homôlka and Háje with a length of 121.6 km. On Sunday, 18 July, the International Cycling Days will culminate  from 10.00 a.m. with a stage with the finish on Bratislavská Street in Dubnica nad Váhom. The stage measures 131.7 km.
