THE OPINION OF THE CHEFS OF MISSION IS IMPORTANT FOR THE ORGANISERS

From Tuesday to Friday (26 – 29 April 2022), Banská Bystrica hosts the Chef de Mission Seminar, which is attended by technical delegates from the individual sports and representatives of the National Olympic Committees in the city below Urpín. During these days, the Organising Committee of the European Youth Olympic Festival Banská Bystrica 2022 presents to all participants the current state of preparations 88 days before the start of the biggest multi-sport event in Slovakia.

The Chef de Mission consists of two parts. “The first is a site visit with the technical delegates. Together we will evaluate the readiness of the particular sports in terms of technical and sports aspects. The second part is a venue tour with the leaders of the Olympic committees. For them, it will have an informative character, when they transfer the information obtained to the sports associations in their countries,“described the director of the sports department, Marek Majerčák.

“I am glad that a representative of the Coordination Commission of the European Olympic Committees, technical delegates from individual sports federations and representatives of the National Olympic Committees have come to our city these days. I am pleased that the results of their observation are positive. I believe that they will leave Banská Bystrica satisfied and that the European Youth Olympic Festival will be a success,” said the Mayor of Banská Bystrica, Ján Nosko.

A meeting with the technical delegates took place on the first day of the seminar. “We introduced the entire project and the state of preparations in the particular departments. We have answered all their questions and we will apply their subsequent recommendations in the final preparations of the EYOF. This is followed by meetings with the National Olympic Committees representatives,” the EYOF Executive Director Peter Hamaj presented the seminar.

The high turnout, with technical delegates from 11 countries and representatives of the Olympic Committees from 42 countries visiting the EYOF 2022 venue, also pleased the Secretary General of the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee, Jozef Liba. “We are glad that so many technical delegates and representatives of the Olympic committees came to Banská Bystrica. Feedback is very important to us because we will find out how our colleagues in the Olympic committees perceive the current state of preparations. This will also give us a signal of what we still need to work on. The remaining 88 days before the event are important to focus on areas that need to be supplemented or improved. Such a seminar is very important for us and we are very happy for the participation of all attendees,” said the EYOF consultant Jozef Liba.
