What will EYOF bring #2? – Sports facilities

Wednesday, 09 March 2022

The organisation of the European Youth Olympic Festival brings with it a large package of funding from all the various stakeholders. In order for the event to take place, all competition venues must meet the conditions for organising the international events. And a large part of the budget went to the reconstruction and repair of particular sports facilities.

What will EYOF bring? – Sports facilities

Reconstruction of existing sports venues

All sports venues must meet the standards set by each federation. For this reason, many of them underwent reconstruction (reconstruction of the athletic stadium, increase of seats for spectators, construction of a warm-up oval, and reconstruction of the winter stadium).

Organisation of other international sports events

Reconstruction of the sports infrastructure and experience with the organisation of the EYOF brings with it the opportunity to organise another important international event in the future.

Development of sports and increasing the membership base in the region

The organisation of EYOF will ensure the promotion of sports for children and youth throughout Slovakia and thus increase their interest in sports. Due to the reconstruction of many sports grounds in the Banská Bystrica region, the sports are becoming more attractive to children, creating a likely increase in the membership base.

Developed infrastructure also for other sectors

After the event, the places where athletes will compete in July can also be used for cultural purposes. From sports grounds (especially with a large background for spectators) it is possible to create a place for various cultural events (concerts, exhibitions, festivals) and thus develop social life in the region.
