600 days to the opening of EYOF 2022 Banská Bystrica

After a year, the organisers of the XVI. European Olympic Youth Festival Banská Bystrica count again 600 days until the beginning of the event. After the postponement to the end of July 2022, the preparation is proceeding according to plan.
The rescheduling to 2022 granted Organising Committee and the city of Banská Bystrica more time to prepare, because after the resignation of the city of Košice in March 2019 to host the event, the organization was under time stress. Moreover, during the spring 2020 and the first wave of the pandemic, it was very difficult to continue with the activities and preparatory work. Many processes were either suspended or held in a restricted mode with maximum time limits.
The Organising Committee will use the extra time to prepare better sports infrastructure and better security of the whole event. Many sport venues are already ready to organize the EYOF. The reconstruction of the SNP Stadium in Štiavničky, the heart of the EYOF, has progressed significantly. The corona crisis caused a slight delay in the preparatory work of the hockey stadium, venue for gymnastics competitions. Reconstruction will start soon, and all work should be completed latest by the beginning of the hockey season 2021/22. Other sports venues will be ready for test events in the first half of 2022 the latest.
