EOYF Stars #3 – Anna Šimková

The athletes have less than four months left to prepare for one of their biggest career highlights – the European Youth Olympic Festival. Also the athlete Anna Šimková is looking forward to the fight for the medal in Banská Bystrica. She is the next competitor we introduce in the section “Stars of the EYOF”. 

For the Slovak pole vault rising star, who will celebrate her sixteenth birthday on 17 May this will be one of the goals of this year’s athletic season. “Competing at the EYOF is a great honor and a responsibility for me. I am very happy to meet new people there, I will compete with the best and I will experience the atmosphere of a big sports event.”

Anna’s biggest successes to date include winning five titles at the Slovak championships in pole vault, one title in the long jump and heptathlon. At the international race EKAG in Brno, she dominated the long jump twice in a row. 

However, this does not end the list of successes of the young hope, who admires the Serbian long jumper Ivana Vulete (formerly Španović) and the men´s pole vault world record holder Armand Duplantis. She won a silver medal in the pole vault at the Slovak Championships five times and once, sher won a bronze medal in the long jump.

At the EYOF, Anna Šimková will compete in the pole vault.

What do the Olympic values mean to you?

If you want to win, you must also learn to lose. I think every athlete should be aware of this and compete or prepare for the race in the spirit of fair play. 

What is your best success to date?

My biggest sports success is winning the EKAG in the long jump, when I won with the last attempt. It means a lot to me because it was my first big victory. 

Who is your athletic role model?

I have several sports idols. These include Ivana Spanovič and Armand Duplantis. I admire the Serbian long jumper for her ferocity and spontaneity. I like that she never gives up. Duplantis is a Swedish pole vaulter who is young, very clever and cheerful. I like the technical part of his jumps.
