EYOF STARS #2 – Alexandra Fričová

Monday, 21 March 2022

The European Olympic Festival continues to present the greatest Slovak hopes, which will be presented in Banská Bystrica. The first sportswoman to appear in the “EYOF Stars” section is volleyball player Alexandra Fričová.

For the seventeen-year-old smasher from Chorvátsky Grob, this will not be the first representative start. „ Of course, I really appreciate the opportunity to play at such a big event as EYOF. This is another opportunity to gain valuable experience and play against the best teams. This is not an event I can be a part of at any time. I am glad that it is being organised in Slovakia.   For me, every big tournament means a reward for the work done, so I was very pleased when they moved the tournament to this year and we didn’t miss it because of the pandemic,” says the Slovak representative, for whom her sister Karolína is the biggest sports role model.

Saša, as an athlete, how do you perceive Olympic values?

As an athlete, I agree with the Olympics, it is a special event during which these values should be respected, but of course also outside this event. I see them as connecting people regardless of diversities and differences.

What results do you consider your best sports achievements?

It is difficult for me to decide on the greatest success. Definitely worth mentioning is the 12th place at the World Cup in Mexico. I think that with my teammates we showed solid performances and played quality matches. Although the resulting place did not meet expectations, I was satisfied after the tournament and proud of what we showed. I feel by myself that this tournament has given me a lot and meant a big leap and a step forward for me in terms of my career. I can’t help but mention 1st place in the MEVZA tournament, where we qualified for the European Championships and there I realized that we can still do a lot more.

Who is your sports role model?

Honestly, I don’t have a role model as such, but I’m definitely looking up to my sister Carolina, thanks to whom I started with volleyball. Whenever she knows, she will advise. Although sometimes I don’t get advice, I’m glad to be able to talk to someone about volleyball openly and professionally. Apart from the fact that she is really good at volleyball, so it is someone who draws me to perform better, for which I am very grateful.
