Satisfaction of the technical delegate with the locations of basketball tournaments

The European Youth Olympic Festival, which will take place in Banská Bystrica and its surroundings on July 24-30, 2022, passed an inspection visit to the locations of basketball tournaments. The girls’ matches will take place in the UMB hall in Banská Bystrica and boys will have a tournament in Badín.

“Technical delegate Lidija Pleič from Croatia was very pleasantly surprised by the EYOF location. She expressed satisfaction with the sports facilities for basketball. We made small changes in the zoning of the girls’ playground at UMB and discussed all important topics such as accommodation, transport, detailed program, or medical security. The delegate was very helpful with all the questions we had about the organisation of the event and the whole visit took place in a very pleasant atmosphere. Basketball is a beautiful and attractive sport. We believe that it will attract the general public to the arenas,” informed Andrea Zererová, who holds the position of sports manager in the EYOF organising committee.

During the inspection, the technical delegate expressed the greatest concern about the hanging baskets in the UMB hall. These types of baskets are not recommended by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), but due to the fact that a league competition is played there and will be the location of the girls’ tournament, Pleič accepted hanging baskets. In Badín, all changing rooms are in need of renovation.
“At the moment, no major changes are needed on the sports facilities. The biggest challenge for us will be the regrinding of the decks at both sports facilities, which should take place in July,” added Zererová. František Kubala, the manager of basketball competitions, as well as other members of the EYOF 2022 organising committee, Matej Libič, Miroslava Mažgutová, Peter Hamaj, Marek Majerčák, also took part in the inspection.
