THE TRAINING STADIUM ŠTIAVNIČKY IS READY

Thursday, 08 April 2021

The training athletic stadium in Štiavničky is already completed, approved and ready for use. The reconstruction of the main stadium should be completed by the end of September. Both sports venues will be used during the European Youth Olympic Festival 2022 Banská Bystrica.

The reconstruction of the Štiavničky complex will cost in total EUR 14,165,040. The budget of the reconstruction project has been increased by 1.2 mil. EUR. The stadium meets the international standards of the World Athletics as well as the third category of the UEFA. The originally intended capacity has been increased from 4,000 seats to almost 8,000.

Today, the training stadium is already open, although the final revitalization works will still take place in the area.

I have received positive feedback from athletes and football players on the renovated training stadium. A walking race will take place there on April 23, which can be considered another small milestone in the reconstruction. As for the main stadium, I believe we will meet the date of the reconstruction. If the weather allows, we will finish it as early as end of September,” said Slovak Minister of Defense Jaroslav Naď. Slovak Ministry of Defence contributed to the reconstruction of the training stadium with investment of 2.4 mil. EUR.

The Olympic gold medalist and one of the EYOF 2022 Banská Bystrica ambassadors, Matej Tóth, would also like to take part in the walking races on April 23. Today, he already undergoes his training on the renovated sports stadium. “I perceive the whole reconstruction very positively. It will allow many international track and fields events to be organized in Banská Bystrica, which will be a great motivation for young athletes,” admitted Matej Tóth.

In addition to EYOF 2022 Banská Bystrica, the reconstructed VŠC Dukla stadium in Štiavničky should also host European Football Under-18 Championships in 2022 and in 2024 it could welcome athletes under 18 at the European Championships.

In Štiavničky area, modernization works are being prepared also for another sports venue, which will be used for EYOF. The reconstruction of the air conditioning system in the sports hall this year is estimated at 125,000 EUR.
